[XP] in the New Year!

The community jumps into 2010 in full force!
January is now over, and the community has taken a few
great leaps internally, in Guild Wars, and even in Real Life!

Internally, we have switched to a Multi-Gaming platform.
With some great titles released recently, such as Modern Warfare 2,
Left4Dead 2, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age,... the list goes on,
our members branch off and enjoy gaming in general,
yet still connect with our community through the forums.
The new platform encourages events to expand to other titles,
even some of the classic games, such as "Starcraft Night" and XBOX Live Parties.

In Guild Wars, we are still going strong with members online daily.
We have accomplished on average 4-6 grouped dungeons a week,
and that doesn't include the PvP and Challenge Mission grouping.
We may be a small community of casual, independent players,
but that doesn't mean we don't know how to rock Tyria together.

We have also implemented a new Lotto system. Inspired by Ryan,
members can use GW gold to buy tickets, and at the end of each week,
random numbers are rolled, allowing members to possibly win big.

As for Real Life, our members are doing well, with our younger members
(yes, including you Chuck) focused heavily on coursework,
and our working members making some good strides in their jobs.

And an official congratulations to Vague on her engagement!

The community is open to anybody who shares the same gaming values as us.

[XP] Adventures Outside Tyria

[XP] Adventures Outside Tyria

The Expedition is redefined as a multi-gaming community!
The most important part of this community are the members!
As our group became more tight-knit and realized that
we share the same love for other games in addition to Guild Wars,
it was time for the guild to evolve to better suit its members.

[XP] is now expanding to other titles that we share together,
including (but not limited) those on networks like
Steam, BattleNet, XBOX Live, and countless others.
Members have recently been finding other online games
to play with each other, and the guild is officially changing
to support the idea of our community gathering outside of GW.

Though we may be exploring other games and stories,
Guild Wars is our origin, and our efforts there have not ceased.
It is at least the one title shared by every single member in [XP],
and we all look forward to gather our forces together in Guild Wars 2
when we explore the unknowns of Tyria and write legends of our own!

[XP] Feasts on Frostmaw

[XP] Feasts on Frostmaw

Plenty of NOMNOMNOM during Thanksgiving!
With all of the real life priorities going on over the game,
such as the holiday break, studying/finals, work, etc,
we managed to get 6 of us on during Thanksgiving.
The guild celebrated by taking Amanda and Jeff through
Frostmaw's Burrow for their time.

The run was rather smooth (almost too smooth),
but it was still fun since it was people's first time.

Soon we will be rockin' more HM dungeons when
we get all of our new GW players up to speed in EOTN!
Great job, everybody! Thanks for coming out!

[XP] Madlib: Ryan's Amazing Thanksgiving

[XP] Madlib: Ryan's Amazing Thanksgiving

When random thoughts from gamers come together...
A guild madlib game has just finished, where the guild was given
a list of 30 blank categories from a rather innocent story
with members having the opportunity to fill in the blanks,
hopefully resulting in a rather humorous story.

Not knowing where they would be used,
(especially when Rex mixed a few numbers around
to throw off any suggestions of word placement)
categories such as [plural noun] and [adjective]
were filled with random words by guildies, and here are the results.

The guildie-selected words are highlighted in green. Enjoy!
Quote:
Ryan's Amazing Thanksgiving

This was my most effusive Thanksgiving ever. When I came in to dinner, Prince Rurik was sitting next to Grandma, and Dolly Parton was carving the Thanksgiving food.

“Have a seat, Ryan,” said Dolly Parton. She was looking so gorgeous that I wished I could swing with her in Boston.

“Pass my tongue pie, Prince Rurik,” said Grandma. “You know, it would be really nice to start with a song. Ryan, would you sing ‘Hotel California’ for everybody?”

“Gosh, Grandma,” I blurted out. “I can't sing in front of everybody. I'm not a rock star like The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, you know.”

“Oh, come on,” said Grandma. “Back when I was your age, I used to play with bananas all night long.”

(Silly Grandma…)

At that point I thought I saw a ballon at the front door. I jumped to the hall and opened the door, and guess what... instead, there was The Mormon Tabernacle Choir!

“Hey, dude, are we in time for the ‘Hotel California’?” asked Dave Grohl, the lead singer of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir! I can't believe it! Did you really come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner?” I asked. I was feeling really crumbly. I felt like I had White Mantle in my Ding-Dong.

“Are you alright, Ryan?” asked Dolly Parton, concerned. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

I would be silly to ask her to help check my Ding-Dong, but it did feel like gorgonzola would just instantly bike ride me at any moment.

“No, I am fine,” I said, “I am just a bit overwhelmed to see The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.”

Surfs up!” said Dave Grohl. “We wouldn't pass up a chance to eat your grandma's tongue pie!”

So I led The Mormon Tabernacle Choir! back into the dining room, and we sang the ‘Hotel California.’ Our song made everyone fall and swim.

“You should come on our next tour with us!” said Dave Grohl.

Sweet Bejesus! I was going to be a rock star!

Ryan! Ryan! Wake up. It's time to make the pumpkin pie.”

It was my mom. I was in bed. It was Thanksgiving morning, and it was all a dream!

For a moment I felt really black because I wasn't going to get to be a rock star. Then I thought about it.

“Well,” I decided, “I am thankful for my family, for my home, for my pet turtle, Amanda, for my neighbor Chuck, our town’s local zookeeper, and for all of the monkeys in Croatia...

...And I'm really thankful I won't have to eat my grandma's tongue pie today!”

Thank you to everybody who participated!
It seems everybody had fun, so we might do this again another time!

[XP] in the 26th Century!

[XP] in the 26th Century!
... Century... century.... century....

Who says a Guild Wars guild can't have fun outside Tyria?

Beginning with the talks of old school online gaming,
(you know, back near the turn of the century),
some [XP] members got together and scheduled
an 'Old School Game Night' where members would
play an older online game that people might have
sitting around collecting dust on the shelf.

This weekend's pick was the classic online RTS Starcraft,
complete with epic battles and crafty strategy
as [XP] raged war in the Milky Way galaxy!

Thanks to Amanda and Thomas for setting this up,
and to all of the participants, Tyler, Derek,
and even Chuck who kepts company on Ventrilo.
